Borovets is Bulgaria’s oldest winter resort tracing it’s roots back to 1896.Borovets is nestled in amongst ancient pine woodland situated on the northern slopes of the Mousala ridge in the eastern part of the Rila Mountain range. The area was once designated as the King’s own hunting grounds and the ancient lodge is open for tourists to visit. The air is considered to be particularly healthy.

The climate in Borovets is considered mild for a ski resort with the coldest month being January with an average temperature of -4.8 degrees C.The resort of Borovets is located 1,360 metres above sea level with the highest lift rising to 2,600 metres above sea level.The skiing takes place dominated by the highest peak on the Balkan penisular, Mousala which rises to an impressive 2,925 metres above sea level.The snow record is good with the slopes being usually covered from the middle of December right through until April.

Borovets is also favourably located just 73 kilometres from Bulgaria’s capital city Sofia and only 12 kilometres from the nearest town Samokov.

The ski area has 45 kilometres of marked pistes of all levels of difficulty and the resort has played host to many competions over the years including the Alpine Skiing World Cup twice. Borovets also has vast opportunities for cross-country skiing and the biathlon track is considered to one of the world’s best. Heli-skiing is also available.

After skiing Borovets is probably most famous for it’s Apres Ski. Borovets is full of bars, cafes, and nightclubs and the party rages on till dawn! There is nightlife to suit every taste from local and traditional song and dance to nightclubs playing the latest in international dance music. Borovets has long been on the international tourist map and as such the level of entertainment facilities have grown accordingly, with most of the local staff speaking two or more foreign languages and happy to help and serve the visitors they entertain.
